From what youve said, if I dont want to modify the original BIOS then it doesnt look like I will be able bootstrap to the ATA interface anyhow.. Also I have read that there is the ability for the ps2 to connect officially with an ATA device, I will assume this doesnt necessarily mean the native DVD drive does though.. If anyone can link me to some information or even better send me some privately I would be very grateful.. I thought that the whole idea of the mod chips was to effectively override the BIOS, so surely people must have dumped it, reverse engineered it, and compiled their own already. HERE

However looking around I dont see many technical threads; Just seems to be people asking about why the mod chip they bought wont work, rather than people trying to actually hack the ps2.. I assumed that this forum would be a good place to ask where I might find this info, as I can imagine this sort of data is needed to build a mod chip.. Again the idea of this isnt to go out and buy a mod chip to do the work for me, I want to hack it myself.. What I want to do is replace the entire DVD drive with some other form of storage device, ideally a hard drive, some sort of solid state (compact flash) storage, or just another DVD drive depending on the situation. 773a7aa168 HERE
